Kenneth Okonkwo on Datti's Criticism of Peter Obi

Kenneth Okonkwo, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and spokesman for ADC presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, addressed the recent criticism of Peter Obi by his former running mate, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed. During an appearance on ARISE Television’s Daybreak programme, Okonkwo suggested that Datti's remarks stem from a “post-political identity crisis” linked to their shared experience in the 2023 presidential election.

Datti had stated that none of the leading contenders for the 2027 presidency, including Obi, possess the capacity to transform Nigeria. Okonkwo expressed understanding for Datti's comments, indicating that the collapse of the political structure that supported their 2023 campaign may have left Datti disillusioned with Obi.

He recalled the initial optimism surrounding the Obi-Baba-Ahmed campaign, noting that many supporters were driven by a desire to contribute positively to Nigeria rather than seeking personal political or material gains.
