Davido Accuses Tinubu of Undermining Democracy During Osun Election

Afrobeats musician David Adeleke, known professionally as Davido, has publicly criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the conduct of the Osun State governorship election held on Saturday. Through posts on social media platform X, Davido alleged that the President was compromising democratic principles and accused the administration of withdrawing police and military personnel from polling locations.

The singer tagged the President directly in one post, stating simply that he had "not tried." Davido's criticism emerged amid reported technical difficulties with voting equipment during the election. The Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) experienced malfunctions at some polling units, with primary cameras failing to operate.

In response, Davido recommended that INEC officials activate the alternative front-facing camera on the devices as a backup measure, describing it as "very active and fast" in a separate post. The musician's intervention reflected broader tensions surrounding the election process.

According to early polling data cited in reports, candidates from the Accord Party were leading in the contest against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Davido's family has political affiliations with the Accord Party through his cousin, former governor Ademola Adeleke.
