Presidency Warns Davido Over Osun Election Comments

Temitope Ajayi, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Publicity, stated that Afrobeat singer David Adeleke, known as Davido, would not be able to make the allegations he did during the August 15 Osun governorship election in countries like Rwanda or Ethiopia. Ajayi accused Davido of being partisan, asserting that his actions were motivated by a desire for his uncle, Ademola Adeleke, to win the election.

He noted that Davido was actively involved in the campaign and held a position within the campaign structure. Ajayi emphasized that while Nigeria's democratic system allows freedom of speech, making unsubstantiated claims could incite violence and have serious consequences elsewhere.

Davido had been vocal on social media during the election, later deleting posts that distanced himself from supporting any presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 election. The Osun election concluded with Ademola Adeleke defeating Bola Oyebamiji, securing 511,067 votes against 444,815.
