Defence Chief Calls for Trust to Combat Insecurity in Nigeria

On Wednesday, in Abuja, Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, the Chief of Defence Staff, called for stronger trust and alliances among government institutions, civil society organizations, and stakeholders to tackle Nigeria's security challenges. Speaking at the Royal College of Defence Studies Alumni Association Nigeria Chapter summit, themed "Rebuild Alliances, Trust, and Consensus: A Panacea to Tackle the Menace of Insecurity in Nigeria," Oluyede stressed the importance of building trust among critical stakeholders to promote national unity and address insecurity.

He highlighted the need for collaboration among various sectors, including the executive, legislature, judiciary, military, academia, traditional and religious institutions, and youth groups. Oluyede urged the government to work with civil society organizations to create platforms for dialogue and mutual trust.

Major Gen. Oluwaseun Oshinowo, a retired officer, noted that the lack of elite consensus has been a significant challenge for Nigeria's security over the past two decades, threatening national cohesion and economic development.
