DNC Approves 2028 Primary Calendar Focusing on Diversity

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) is scheduled to approve a new 2028 presidential primary calendar that emphasizes Black and Latino voters and organized labor, moving away from the traditional early states of Iowa and New Hampshire. The primary calendar will commence with South Carolina's primary on January 22, followed by Nevada on February 1, with New Hampshire, New Mexico, Michigan, and Virginia participating throughout February.

DNC Chairman Ken Martin stated that the calendar reflects the diversity of the committee. South Carolina has been pivotal for nominees Barack Obama in 2008, Hillary Clinton in 2016, and Joe Biden in 2020, due to its significant Black population.

Former DNC Chairman Howard Dean remarked that the new states better represent the country's demographics. The calendar also aims to engage organized labor, with Nevada, Michigan, and Virginia being key states for various labor sectors.

The DNC's changes are expected to influence campaign strategies and resource allocation ahead of Super Tuesday.
