Building Collapse in Lagos During Demolition Kills One

On September 10, a demolition exercise at No. 42, Governors Road, Aboru, Lagos State, resulted in the collapse of a two-storey building, killing one person and trapping workers beneath the rubble. The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, prompting an emergency response from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and other agencies.

LASEMA's Alpha Eagle Response Team was dispatched at 12:56 a.m. after a distress call was received. Upon arrival, they found that the building had collapsed during manual demolition activities.

The agency activated the State’s Emergency Response Plan and coordinated a search and rescue operation, successfully extricating two adult males who were treated by personnel from the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) before being taken to a health facility. Unfortunately, one adult male was confirmed dead at the scene.

Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, urged compliance with building regulations and the reporting of unsafe activities to emergency authorities.
