National Boundary Commission Reviews Nigeria's Border System

The Director General of the National Boundary Commission (NBC) welcomed a committee tasked with reviewing Nigeria’s borders management system. Surveyor Adaji commended the Minister's efforts to enhance national security strategies and border governance reforms.

He reaffirmed the commission's commitment to supporting the committee's assignment, emphasizing that effective border governance is vital for safeguarding Nigeria's territorial integrity and promoting peace in inter-state relations. Adaji addressed various emerging security threats, including terrorism, arms trafficking, irregular migration, transnational crime, and climate-induced displacement.

He stressed the need for a comprehensive collaborative approach involving security agencies, border communities, sub-national governments, and traditional institutions, as well as regional partners. The importance of investing in border infrastructure and technology, as well as sharing intelligence for cross-border cooperation, was highlighted.

Brigadier General M.B. Shehu, the committee leader, expressed appreciation for the Director General's warm reception and solicited cooperation from the commission to achieve the committee's mandate.
