NBC Boss Calls for Collaboration on Border Security

Adamu Adaji, the Director General of the National Boundary Commission, emphasized the necessity for stronger collaboration among federal, state, and local governments to effectively tackle boundary disputes and enhance border security. This statement was made during a two-day interface titled "Inclusive Border Governance," organized by the Senate Committee on State and Local Government Administration.

The event attracted senators and deputy governors, focusing on developing partnerships and discussing central practices to improve border governance and security, thereby fostering sustainable socio-economic development in border communities. Adaji noted that effective border governance extends beyond combating trans-border crime, including conflict prevention and institutional cooperation.

He urged state governments to establish and strengthen support for state boundary commissions and improve coordination to minimize conflicts while stimulating economic activities in border areas. The interface was opened by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, with contributions from Bino Yaro, who highlighted ongoing challenges such as poor infrastructure and unemployment in border communities.
