National Boundary Commission Advances Talks on Disputes

The National Boundary Commission, represented by Surveyor Adamu Adaji, is intensifying efforts to resolve outstanding interstate boundary disputes between Abia and Anambra states. A joint meeting held in Awka, Anambra State, acknowledged the successful tracing of a 15-kilometer section of the boundary, leaving an eight-kilometer stretch to be resolved.

The meeting involved key figures such as Engr Ikechukwu Emetu, Hon Barr Chijiok Nwankwo, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, and Hon Ekenechukwu Okoy, who emphasized the need for mutual respect and professionalism in the resolution process. The commission aims to establish legal procedures based on historical records and judicial pronouncements, with a commitment from both states to expedite the process.

The next technical meeting is scheduled for July 1, 2026, to identify practical solutions for the remaining boundary issues, reinforcing the importance of peace and security for the communities involved.
