DHQ Calls for Enhanced Operations Against Misinformation

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) conducted the Psychological Operations Workshop from July 22 to 24, 2026, in Abuja, highlighting the necessity for stronger psychological and influence operations to counter misinformation and enhance national resilience against security threats. Representing the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, Rear Admiral Abolade Ogunleye stated that the current security landscape transcends conventional warfare, with adversaries using misinformation and propaganda to undermine public confidence.

He stressed that military operations alone cannot ensure lasting peace and called for a coordinated approach involving various stakeholders, including security agencies, government institutions, and civil society. Halima Musa, representing the Nigerian Television Authority, acknowledged the integration of kinetic and non-kinetic strategies by the Armed Forces to address insecurity.

Mallam Jibrin Baba Ndace, Director-General of the Voice of Nigeria, underscored the importance of credible communication in modern conflicts, asserting that military success must be supported by effective information strategies to maintain public trust.
