INEC Promotes Disability Inclusion for Zamfara Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has urged for stronger collaboration with organizations representing Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) to eliminate barriers to their participation in elections in Zamfara State. Dr Mahmoud Isah, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Zamfara, made this appeal during a sensitization program in Gusau.
He emphasized the importance of prioritizing the concerns of PWDs in electoral planning and implementation, encouraging PWD representatives to share their experiences and propose practical solutions for improved access. This engagement is viewed as a significant opportunity for dialogue and collaboration in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
Dr Isah reaffirmed that every eligible citizen, including PWDs, has the right to vote and should have access to voter education, Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), and polling units. Bilyaminu Umar, Secretary of the Zamfara State Persons with Disabilities Board, praised INEC for its commitment to promoting disability inclusion and expressed hope that this initiative would lead to more inclusive and credible elections.
