Aguonwenkeya Community Appeals for Help After 15 Years

The Aguonwenkeya community, located in Ezza Iyonu, Ishielu Local Government Area, Ebonyi State, has appealed to Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for intervention concerning their 15-year displacement resulting from the Ezza Ezillo crisis that began in 2008. A letter dated March 9, 2026, written by the community's solicitor, Sampson Ekigbo of Good Chamber, outlines their plight and requests urgent government action.

The community claims that they were victims of an armed attack by Ezza Ezillo warlords, which led to the deaths of several residents and forced many to flee, leaving their properties vulnerable to looting. The Aguonwenkeya community seeks recognition of their ancestral land, known as Mgba Abazi, and requests the government to assess the affected area to facilitate their return.

They emphasize the need for adequate reintegration, rehabilitation, and compensation to help them rebuild their lives after 15 years of trauma.
