DLA Condemns Sowore's Bail Revocation and Incarceration

The Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA), through its chairman Samuel M. Memeh, condemned the revocation of Omoyele Sowore's bail and his incarceration following recent court proceedings.

The DLA expressed profound concern regarding the implications of this decision on Nigeria's democratic processes, particularly at a time when the country is facing significant insecurity and economic challenges. The alliance emphasized the need for greater tolerance of opposing views and warned that Sowore's imprisonment could fuel public concern about the shrinking democratic space in Nigeria.

They argued that a democratic government must protect citizens' rights and allow for dissenting opinions, as suppressing criticism does not lead to better governance. The DLA called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Attorney General of the Federation to demonstrate greater tolerance for dissenting opinions.

They stressed that addressing Nigeria's security crisis requires a combination of security operations, economic development, job creation, and anti-corruption measures.
