NLC Condemns DSS for Omoyele Sowore's Arrest

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) strongly criticized the Department of State Services (DSS) following the dramatic arrest of Omoyele Sowore, a chieftain of the African Action Congress (AAC) and former presidential candidate, at the Federal High Court in Abuja. In a statement issued on Thursday, NLC President Joe Ajaero condemned the manner in which the DSS conducted the arrest, expressing serious concerns about the agency's respect for due process.

Ajaero described the scene as disturbing, with the DSS's actions creating an impression of intimidation rather than lawful enforcement. He emphasized that such conduct could weaken public trust in Nigeria’s democratic institutions.

Ajaero questioned the DSS's role in the matter, highlighting the potential conflict of interest given the agency's involvement in multiple stages of the legal process. He warned that actions capable of instilling fear among citizens and activists could further threaten civil liberties and freedom of expression in the country.
