Nigerian VC Urges Professors to Uphold Election Integrity

Professor Lateef Folorunsho Oladimeji, the Vice Chancellor of Al-Hikmah University in Ilorin, Kwara State, advised Nigerian professors to avoid becoming tools for politicians aiming to subvert election outcomes. Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of his first-year anniversary in office, he called for the appointment of an independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to oversee elections and urged academics to uphold integrity and resist political inducements.

Oladimeji acknowledged that while many professors maintain their integrity, a few have compromised their values in past elections. He emphasized the critical role of the academic community in ensuring credible elections and commended the contributions of academics to strengthening public confidence in Nigeria's democratic process.

He also reported significant achievements at Al-Hikmah University, including the highest student enrollment in its history, with 2,000 students admitted and 2,700 postgraduate enrollments. The university secured full accreditation for its programs and plans to launch a distance learning program to expand educational access.
