Dorcas Gwani Wins NUJ Plateau Correspondents Chapel Election

Dorcas Gwani of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) has been elected as the Chairperson of the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Plateau State Council. In a closely contested election held in Jos, Gwani received 25 votes, defeating Douglas Francis of Arise News, who garnered nine votes.

Lola Bello of the Voice of Nigeria was elected unopposed as Secretary. The election, overseen by the National Secretariat of the NUJ, Zone D, took place at the NUJ Secretariat in Jos after months of controversy surrounding the chapel’s election originally scheduled for mid-July 2026.

The election Committee, led by Miss Patience Aliyu of NAN, along with Mr. James Abraham of The Punch and Mr. Pam Musa of The Telegraph, officially declared Gwani the winner. In her acceptance speech, Gwani expressed gratitude to the electoral committee and pledged to promote unity and the welfare of journalists in Plateau State, urging members to support the new leadership.
