Senator Uba Sani Identifies Porous Borders and Drug Trafficking as Key Drivers of Violence in Northwest Nigeria

Senator Uba Sani, during a security summit in Kaduna State, emphasized the critical role of porous borders, drug trafficking, and illegal arms flow in fueling violence in the Northwest region of Nigeria. Sani warned about the alarming proliferation of arms and estimated over ten million illicit ammunition in the region.

He linked drug trafficking to financing banditry and the recruitment of vulnerable youth into criminal networks, exacerbating violence and community destabilization. The governor proposed a comprehensive roadmap to restore stability and combat the enduring threats of banditry and kidnapping in the region.
