NDLEA Advocates Mandatory Drug Screening for Couples

On Tuesday, Brig. Gen.

Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd), the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), advocated for mandatory drug screening for intending couples. This proposal was made during the launch of the Campaign Against Drug Abuse and the signing of Executive Orders for the establishment of the Jigawa State Task Force on Drug Abuse Control at the Government House in Dutse.

Marwa emphasized that drug screening should be as essential as HIV and genotype tests prior to marriage, noting that many marriages are disrupted shortly before ceremonies due to one partner testing positive for illicit drug use. He urged the Jigawa State Government to adopt this initiative to combat drug abuse effectively.

Marwa also highlighted the NDLEA's daily handling of cases where marriages are canceled due to drug abuse. Governor Umar Namadi supported this initiative, commending the establishment of the task force and urging its members to approach their responsibilities with integrity and dedication.
