Marwa Calls for Community Action Against Drug Abuse

On Saturday, Brig. Gen.

Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), called for collaboration from traditional rulers, parents, and community leaders in Nigeria to address the issues of substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking. This appeal was made during his speech at the 10th anniversary of Akinale Day and the 1st Coronation Anniversary of Oba Oluseyi Ayodeji Adewole Adediran, Towulade of Owu Akinale, held at Baptist Primary School in Ogun State.

Marwa highlighted the indiscriminate nature of drug abuse, affecting all demographics, and urged parents to monitor their children closely. He also encouraged youths to reject illicit drugs, labeling substance abuse as a false escape.

Marwa proposed the establishment of community-based advocacy networks to deter drug peddlers and support individuals struggling with substance use. He warned of the recent discovery of clandestine methamphetamine laboratories in Ogun and Oyo states, urging vigilance regarding unfamiliar individuals in rural areas.
