NDLEA's Marwa Calls for Community Action Against Drugs

On Saturday, during the 10th Akinale Day celebration and the first coronation anniversary of Oba Oluseyi Ayodeji Adewole Adediran (Otileta I) in Ogun State, Brig. Gen.

Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), urged traditional rulers, parents, and community leaders to take a more active role in the fight against substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking. Marwa emphasized that law enforcement alone cannot win the battle against drug abuse, highlighting the importance of traditional institutions and families in safeguarding youth.

He advised parents to monitor their children for early signs of substance abuse and to reinforce moral values. Marwa also called for the establishment of grassroots anti-drug advocacy networks and raised concerns about industrial-scale methamphetamine laboratories linked to a Nigerian-Mexican drug cartel in Ogun and Oyo states.

He urged traditional rulers to be vigilant about activities in their communities and conduct background checks on individuals seeking farmland.
