NBA Confirms July 18, 2026 Elections After DSS Release

The Nigerian Bar Association's (NBA) election service provider's Managing Director was released by the Department of State Services (DSS) after being arrested and detained. This incident occurred ahead of the NBA's national elections, which the National Executive Council (NEC) has reaffirmed will take place on July 18, 2026.

The NEC reached this decision during a virtual emergency meeting on Thursday, where members unanimously committed to upholding the constitution and ensuring the independence of the association's democratic processes. The electoral committee is preparing for the elections, aiming to conduct a free, fair, transparent, and credible election.

The NEC condemned the arrest and described the situation as troubling, demanding the immediate and unconditional release of the Managing Director. They emphasized that no external interference should derail the electoral timeline, urging eligible bar members to remain calm and participate peacefully in the elections.
