DWI Supports INEC's Derecognition of ADC Leadership

The Democracy Watch Initiative (DWI) has expressed support for the Independent National Electoral Commission's (INEC) decision to withdraw recognition of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) leadership led by David Mark. DWI commended INEC for this action, which it views as a demonstration of the commission's commitment to transparency, accountability, and integrity within Nigeria's electoral process.

Tunji Bamidel, DWI's Director of Strategic Communications, highlighted that INEC's decision underscores its resolve to uphold democratic principles and ensure political parties operate within established legal frameworks. The withdrawal of recognition is seen as a significant step, especially with the country gearing up for the 2027 general elections, necessitating strict adherence to democratic norms.

DWI urged political stakeholders to embrace cooperation and resolve internal disputes constructively, warning that unresolved conflicts could negatively impact the electoral process and the health of democracy in Nigeria.
