Shehu Sani: E-Transmission Won't Ensure Fair Elections

Shehu Sani, a former Senator representing Kaduna Central, expressed his views during an interview on the Sunrise Daily program on Channel Television regarding the recent passage of the Electoral Act. He highlighted that while the Senate approved electronic transmission of election results, this does not ensure that elections will be entirely free, fair, or credible.

Sani pointed out that every electoral system has the potential for manipulation, and that the introduction of electronic transmission does not eliminate the possibility of rigging. He stressed the importance of national interest and the need for an independent electoral body to ensure credible elections.

Sani also mentioned that voters should not be induced with money or material goods to influence their votes, indicating that the integrity of the electoral process relies on the commitment to uphold democratic principles.
