Rear Admiral Fadahunsi Elected Vice Chairman of EATHC

On July 3, 2025, Rear Admiral O.O. Fadahunsi was elected as Vice Chairman of the Eastern Atlantic Hydrographic Commission (EATHC) during a conference held in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire.

His term is set to last from 2026 to 2028. The EATHC was established on November 26, 1984, and includes four founding member countries: France, Nigeria, Portugal, and Spain, expanding to 11 member states and 10 associate members over the years.

The commission focuses on promoting capacity building in hydrography, nautical cartography, and the development of international charting schemes. Nigeria is scheduled to host the next EATHC conference in June 2028, which will also include the 25th meeting of the Capacity Building Sub-Committee (CBSC25) and the 19th meeting of the Inter-Regional Coordination Committee (IRCC19) in June 2027.

Fadahunsi's election underscores Nigeria's ongoing commitment to advancing hydrography and promoting safe navigation in the Eastern Atlantic region.
