Nwifuru Threatens Dismissal of LG Chairmen in 2027

On Tuesday, during the inauguration of the new Chairmen and Vice Chairmen of the 13 Local Government Areas in Ebonyi State, Governor Francis Nwifuru declared that any council chairman who does not win their area for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections would be removed from office and replaced by a councillor. Nwifuru emphasized the importance of the chairmen ensuring APC's success, stating, “charity begins from home.” He urged them to work diligently to prevent the opposition from gaining ground in their localities.

Additionally, he advised vice chairmen to collaborate closely with their chairmen and avoid rivalries, likening their roles to “spare tyres inside the car boot.” Nwifuru cited his deputy, a former council chairman, as an example of how performance can lead to higher office. Chief Timothy Nwachi, the re-elected Chairman of Afikpo LGA, expressed gratitude on behalf of the new chairmen, pledging to ensure a landslide victory for APC in 2027.

Notably, Osborne Umahi, son of the Works Minister David Umahi, was appointed Chairman of Ohaozara LGA.
