Edo Community Defends Historical Identity and Autonomy

The Edo community, led by Elder Uhunmwok Orhuma Ewuare, has pledged to defend its historical identity and territorial boundaries against what they describe as attempts to undermine their autonomy. Key figures, including community head Pa Ogieva Edomwonyi, Pa Sunni Omoregi, and Pa Oghogho Oteleku, expressed their commitment during a press briefing in Benin City.

They rejected claims questioning the community's traditional heritage and reaffirmed their loyalty to Edo State Governor Senator Mondai Okpebholo and Oba Ewuare II. The community emphasized that their historical documentation dates back to the reign of Oba Ewuare and that their cultural identity, established over centuries, cannot be altered for personal interests.

They described the attempts to deny their autonomy as baseless and an effort to erase their rich cultural identity.
