Edo Community Appeals for Governor's Help Amid Insecurity

The Imoga community in Akoko Edo Local Government Area, Edo State, has formally requested intervention from Governor Mondai Okpebholo due to a recent killing allegedly involving Fulani herders. In a letter dated July 20, 2026, signed by Jefferi Obasanmi, the community expressed concerns over a disturbing pattern of violent attacks that threaten peace and security.

The letter highlights the persistent insecurity that prevents farmers from accessing their farmland, posing a serious threat to their livelihoods and food security. The community, which shares extensive boundaries with Kogi and Ondo states, is particularly vulnerable to cross-border criminal activities.

The chairman of Akoko Edo Local Government Area, Alabi Oshionogu, has urged members of the Edo State Security Corp to intensify efforts to curb insecurity, describing the situation as unfortunate. He emphasized the need for greater dedication from security personnel to combat kidnapping and cultism in the area.
