Iru Community Denies Claims for Anioma State Inclusion

The Iru Community Elder Council, represented by Pa Jame Osakw and Mr. Emmanuel Mordi, issued a statement denying any requests from the Iru people to be included in the proposed Anioma State.

This response was prompted by social media reports claiming that the Iru community was advocating for inclusion in the new state. The council characterized these reports as spurious and misleading, asserting that the Iru people have historically been part of Edo State and are bona fide Edo indigenes.

They traced their origins back to the ancient Benin Kingdom and refuted claims that they are part of the Igbo community. The statement also urged the public to disregard the false narratives circulating on social media, which they attributed to mischief-makers.

Furthermore, the council reaffirmed that the creation of new states is solely the prerogative of the federal government, as outlined in the Nigerian constitution.
