Edo State Demolishes Illegal Structures Near Power Lines

On Tuesday, the Edo State government conducted a demolition exercise targeting illegal structures located directly under a 132kV high tension power line in Egor Market, Benin. This action was prompted by a recent fire outbreak involving the overhead line.

The demolition focused on stalls and structures that posed risks to safety. Mr.

Darlington Igabali, Managing Director of the Edo State Development and Building Control Agency, stated that traders were adequately informed about the demolition and were directed to evacuate their illegal structures immediately. Despite the notice, some traders expressed distress, with reports of emotional reactions as they attempted to salvage their goods.

Ms. Lisa Iredia acknowledged that traders were given a seven-day notice to comply with the government's directive.

Mr. Grace Odion commended the demolition, emphasizing its necessity for public safety.
