Traders Escape Death as TCN Power Lines Explode in Edo

Traders and residents in Edo narrowly escaped death when power lines exploded, igniting flames that forced them to flee. The incident disrupted the Benin-Egbin 330kV and Benin-Omotoso 330kV transmission lines, causing voltage instability across the national grid and leading to power outages in Lagos and its environs.

Ndidi Mbah, the General Manager of Public Affairs at TCN, stated that the national control center instructed several generating stations to reduce output to stabilize the system. TCN teams are working to rectify faults in the 330kV Benin-Omotoso transmission line to restore bulk power supply as quickly as possible.

Mbah expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to residents and businesses. Meanwhile, Euguen Okolo, the chairman of the demolition committee for the Edo state government, visited the area and issued a seven-day ultimatum to demolish illegal structures near power lines to protect lives and property.
