Edo State Bans MDAs from Revenue Collection Activities

The Edo State Government has issued a directive prohibiting all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) from engaging in revenue collection. This decision, communicated through a statement by the Edo State Internal Revenue Service’s spokesperson, Courage Eboigb, emphasizes that only the Edo State Internal Revenue Service is authorized to collect revenue on behalf of the state.

The directive, which follows the Edo State Revenue Administration Law of 2012, mandates MDAs to cease any direct revenue collection activities and to stop using third-party agents for tax collection. The Executive Chairman of the Edo State Internal Revenue Service, John Odior, has expressed dissatisfaction with the current compliance levels and has urged stakeholders to support the administration in ensuring strict revenue discipline.

Governor Mondai Okpebholo highlighted that this measure is essential for the government to provide infrastructure development across the state.
