Edo State Targets Unverified Health Advertisements

The Edo State government, through the Edo State Health Regulatory Monitor Agency (EDOHERMA), has vowed to clamp down on unverified health advertisements and practitioners, especially self-acclaimed traditional healers and unregistered practitioners. Dr.

Adesuwa Urhoghid, the Chief Executive Officer of EDOHERMA, issued this warning during a courtesy visit to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Edo State Council in Benin City on Friday. The agency has called on media organizations to demand proof of approval from EDOHERMA before airing health-related advertisements.

This initiative is part of broader measures to sanitize the health sector, eliminate quackery, and strengthen public confidence in healthcare delivery in the state. EDOHERMA was established following the signing of the Edo State Health Regulatory Monitor Agency Bill on December 5, 2025, which created a single statutory body responsible for monitoring and regulating healthcare services across the state.

The agency aims to improve the standard of medical tourism in Edo by ensuring proper verification of health personnel and services.
