Edo State Issues 7MW Mini-Grid License to Izenergi

Edo State has granted a 7 megawatt (MW) mini-grid license to the indigenous investor Izenergi Limited as part of efforts to expand electricity access and promote renewable energy in the region. The license was presented by the Commissioner for Power, Paul Usenbo, in Benin City.

Usenbo declared Izenergi an emerging success after a rigorous assessment of its financial and technical capabilities, in line with the Edo State Electrification Law of 2025. The company is approved to develop renewable energy projects across Edo State's three senatorial districts: Edo South, Edo Central, and Edo North, following a feasibility study conducted throughout the state's 18 local government areas.

The initiative aligns with the Electrification Act of 2023 and aims to provide decentralized electricity generation and distribution. The Edo State government is pursuing a multi-pronged strategy to achieve energy sufficiency, combining the national grid with independent power projects and renewable energy solutions.
