Edo Man Arrested for Faking Kidnap to Extort N4m

The Edo State Police Command arrested two suspects, Lucki Alabi, aged 48, and Taiy Enahoro, aged 37, for allegedly conspiring to stage a fake kidnapping to extort N4 million from Alabi's family. The police operation, named "Operation Igarra," was initiated following credible intelligence that led to the investigation.

The scheme reportedly began on June 23, 2026, when Taiy Enahoro allegedly made several telephone calls to demand the ransom for Alabi's supposed kidnapping. Preliminary investigations revealed that both suspects admitted their involvement in the crime.

The police confirmed that they would be charged in court upon the conclusion of the investigation. The Commissioner of Police, Mondai Agbonika, warned the public against engaging in criminal activities, including staged kidnappings for extortion, and urged residents to remain security-conscious and report any suspicious activities.
