Midnight Fire Destroys Seven Shops in Benin City

A midnight fire broke out at approximately 3am on Sunday along Amen Owie Street, opposite Delano Hotels, off Second Ugbor Road, in Abuja Quarters, Benin City, Edo State. The incident resulted in the destruction of seven shops and an undisclosed quantity of goods, leaving the shop owners with significant losses.
Fortunately, no lives were lost. Traders reported that they were alerted by neighbors who called them after the fire started.
They suspected that the fire might have been caused by an electrical appliance left on in one of the shops after the owner closed late. This incident occurred shortly after the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) restored electricity to the area.
Although residents rushed to the scene to evacuate valuables and prevent the fire from spreading, attempts to contact the Edo State Fire Service were reportedly difficult due to the timing of the incident. The exact cause of the fire has yet to be officially determined, and the quantity and value of the goods destroyed remain unknown.
