Fire Destroys 12 Shops Worth Millions in Kwara

A fire incident in Kwara occurred shortly after midnight on Saturday, destroying 12 shops and goods valued between N30 million and N40 million. The fire began in one shop within a complex opposite Alkad Filling Station, which houses about 40 shops.

Eyewitness Kolawole recounted that he was the last customer before the shop closed for the night. Approximately an hour later, flames were noticed coming from the shop's roof.

Efforts to access the shop were hindered by the fire's intensity and structural barriers. The Kwara State Fire Service received a distress call and arrived at the scene at 1:14 am, by which time significant damage had already occurred.

Two fire appliances were deployed, and personnel from the Federal Fire Service joined the operation, preventing further spread to adjacent areas. The affected businesses included those selling solar equipment, electronics, and other goods.

The exact cause of the fire remains undetermined, although it may have originated from solar equipment.
