Edo PRP Postpones State Congress Amid Internal Disputes

The Edo State chapter of the People's Redemption Party (PRP) has postponed its state congress indefinitely following internal disputes among party members. The disagreements stem from differing opinions on whether to conduct a direct or indirect congress.

Originally scheduled to commence at 10:00 AM on Saturday, the congress was delayed until 2:00 PM, but members could not reach an agreement on the conduct of the exercise. Yakubu Paul, the chairman of the electoral committee, announced the postponement, which was approved by the party's national secretariat.

This postponement allows for the rescheduling of the congress, which is crucial for electing ward and local government chairmen. However, faction loyal to the incumbent state chairman, Greg Ibinomwanya, insists that only 344 individuals are eligible to vote based on the party's register, while Yakubu Paul rejected this claim, alleging manipulation of the register.

Adam Erunmwuns, a spokesperson for aggrieved members, accused the leadership of losing credibility and attempting to influence the process to secure their positions.
