EDSIEC Approves 12 Parties for Edo Local Government Elections

The Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) has officially cleared 12 political parties to participate in the upcoming local government elections set for Saturday. Hon.

Jonathan Aifuobhokhan, the chairman of EDSIEC, announced this during a media briefing in Benin City on Thursday. The elections will occur simultaneously across Edo State's 18 local government areas, encompassing 192 wards and 4,519 polling units.

Aifuobhokhan emphasized the commission's commitment to conducting free, fair, credible, and peaceful elections. He listed the participating political parties, which include the All Progressives Congress (APC), Action Alliance (AA), Accord Party, Action Peoples Party (APP), African Action Congress (AAC), Action Democratic Party (ADP), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), among others.

EDSIEC has made special logistical arrangements to ensure that no eligible voter is disenfranchised, including the deployment of hundreds of buses, vehicles, motorcycles, and boats. The commission has recruited and trained 9,000 ad hoc personnel to oversee the electoral process, which includes accreditation, voting, and result collation.
