Nigeria Launches N-SEEP for Sports and Education Integration

The National Sports Commission (NSC) and the Federal Ministry of Education have launched the National Sports and Education Excellence Programme (N-SEEP), aimed at integrating quality education with elite sports development in Nigeria. This initiative will establish Sports and Education Centres of Excellence across nine tertiary institutions, combining academic programs with high-performance sports training.

NSC Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko stated that N-SEEP addresses the dilemma faced by talented young Nigerians who often have to choose between education and sports. He emphasized the need to create an ecosystem where both can thrive.

Minister of Education Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa described N-SEEP as a transformative reform under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, enabling athletes to train at home while earning recognized qualifications. The nine selected institutions include the University of Ibadan, Ahmadu Bello University, Federal College of Education Okene, Babcock University, University of Nigeria Nsukka, University of Benin, University of Jos, Muhammad Buhari University Maiduguri, and Federal Polytechnic Offa.
