FG Launches N-SEEP to Enhance Sports and Education

The Federal Government of Nigeria has launched the National Sports and Education Excellence Programme (N-SEEP) to enhance the country's sports landscape by integrating elite sports development with quality education. The initiative was unveiled by the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, alongside the Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mallam Shehu Dikko, and the Director General, Honourable Bukola Olopade.

Nine tertiary institutions will be designated as National Sports and Education Centres of Excellence, with implementation starting with four institutions in the first phase. The selected institutions will establish faculties of sports science offering globally benchmarked academic programmes aimed at producing elite athletes, coaches, sports scientists, and other professionals essential for strengthening Nigeria’s sports ecosystem.

Dr. Alausa reaffirmed the government's commitment to developing an education system that supports both talent and academic achievement, while Mallam Dikko described the programme as a landmark initiative that aligns with the NSC's vision for sports as a viable economic sector.
