EFCC Unfreezes Osun State Accounts After Tinubu's Order

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has lifted the restriction on the bank accounts of the Osun State Government, which were frozen on August 5, 2026, just ten days before the state’s governorship election. This action drew criticism from the public, as the state governor, Ademola Adeleke, is not affiliated with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Temitope Ajayi, a Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, confirmed the unfreezing of the accounts, stating that the EFCC could not disregard the presidential order. Ajayi noted that the removal of the restriction was executed immediately, preventing the Osun State Government from using the issue as a campaign point.

Following the unfreezing, Governor Adeleke directed the Attorney-General to withdraw the lawsuit against the EFCC. The accounts are now functional, indicating a resolution to the previous political tensions surrounding the issue.
