El-Shenawy Receives Four-Match Ban After Referee Clash

Mohamed El-Shenawy, the goalkeeper for Al Ahli SC, has been handed a four-match ban and fined 50,000 Egyptian pounds (approximately $700) following an incident involving a referee during a match against Ceramica Cleopatra in the Egyptian Pro League. The disciplinary action was confirmed by the Egyptian Pro League on Friday.

The incident occurred during a 1-1 draw when El-Shenawy reacted angrily to a late decision where Al Ahli was not awarded a penalty for a suspected handball in stoppage time. This escalation led to an altercation with match officials.

The ban means El-Shenawy will be sidelined until the final stages of the season, as Al Ahli competes for the league title, currently sitting in third place with 41 points, five points behind leaders Zamalek SC. El-Shenawy, aged 37, is expected to be included in the national squad for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the World Cup in North America.
