Nigeria Reaffirms Commitment to EITI Transparency Standards

On Monday, in Abuja, Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, reaffirmed Nigeria's commitment to transparency and accountability in the management of its extractive industries while receiving a delegation from the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI). The EITI Validation Exercise commenced on July 1, 2026.

Akume, represented by Dr Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, the Permanent Secretary (GSO), stated that this initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s agenda for promoting good governance and sustainable economic growth. He emphasized Nigeria's dedication to the EITI process, highlighting ongoing reforms aimed at improving regulatory frameworks and data accessibility.

Mr Riley Zecca, the Leader of the EITI Global Validation Team, praised Nigeria's proactive approach and noted the importance of the country to the global secretariat. Hon.

Musa Sarkin Adar, Executive Secretary of NEITI, expressed gratitude for the government's support in advancing transparency and good governance in the sector.
