EITI Assessors Arrive in Nigeria for 2026 Validation

The Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) announced the arrival of global Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) assessors for the ongoing 2026 EITI validation exercise, which commenced on August 10, 2026. This mission marks a significant stage in Nigeria’s validation process.

The assessors will conduct a comprehensive quality assurance assessment and engage with key stakeholders, including government institutions, the National Assembly, extractive companies, civil society organizations, development partners, anti-corruption agencies, host communities, and the media. NEITI's Executive Secretary, Musa Adar, described the mission as an important opportunity to showcase Nigeria’s commitment to transparency and accountability in the governance of its extractive industries.

He noted that NEITI, in collaboration with the National Stakeholders’ Working Group (NSWG), had completed extensive preparations for the exercise, including submitting Nigeria’s validation documentation. In January 2023, Nigeria underwent its fourth validation exercise under the 2019 EITI Standard, achieving a moderate overall score of 72 points.
