Nigeria First Policy Essential for Local Entrepreneurs

Leo Stan Ekeh, the Chairman of Zinox Group, articulated that the Nigeria First Policy serves as a significant protection for creatively ambitious Nigerian entrepreneurs. He made this statement during a session titled ‘E-Commerce and Procurement: Transforming Public Contracting through Digital Systems, Transparency and Local Capacity Development’ at the Nigerian Bar Association’s 66th Annual General Conference.

Ekeh asserted that for Nigeria to establish a sustainable digital economy, it is essential to prioritize indigenous businesses over foreign alternatives. He advocated for a policy framework mandating government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to focus on local goods and services where local capacity exists.

Ekeh highlighted that this policy could create a reliable domestic market for Nigerian innovators, reduce dependence on imported technology, and enhance economic value within the country. He also discussed the importance of digital systems in public contracting, emphasizing e-procurement platforms and the need for stronger enforcement of compliance with procurement requirements.
