Ekiti Election: A Wake-Up Call for Nigerian Politicians

Sey Oladejo, a chieftain of the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), remarked that the recent governorship election in Ekiti State should serve as a wake-up call for politicians and political parties in Nigeria. He emphasized that electoral success is determined by votes cast at polling units and the necessity of obtaining a Permanent Voter Card (PVC), rather than relying on social media hype.

Oladejo pointed out that the election reaffirmed the importance of grassroots political mobilization and voter education, which are essential for building trust and confidence among the electorate. He noted that the average Nigerian voter is increasingly independent-minded and evaluates candidates based on their track records rather than online narratives.

The lessons from the Ekiti election extend beyond the state, urging political actors to prepare for the upcoming 2027 general elections by prioritizing grassroots engagement and encouraging citizens to obtain their PVCs.
