Ekiti Court Sentences Three Kidnappers to 97 Years

On August 11, 2023, the Ekiti State High Court in Ado Ekiti sentenced three individuals—Augustin Agbogbo to 40 years, Adeniyi Olamilekan to 25 years, and Ademoh Gabriel to 32 years—for their involvement in the kidnapping of retired Lt. Cdr.

Victoria Eisap and other offenses. The court found them guilty of conspiracy to kidnap, armed robbery, and unlawful possession of firearms.

The charges stemmed from incidents occurring on December 20, 2022, and April 6, 2023, where the kidnappers demanded a ransom of N70 million but received N8 million. The prosecution presented seven witnesses and evidence including firearms and ammunition.

However, three other defendants—Ogungbemi Gbenga, Rakiya Oseni, and Mutairu—were acquitted due to a failure to prove the charges against them. Justice Adeniyi Familoni emphasized the need for stringent punishment to deter similar crimes in Nigeria.
