Three Sentenced to 97 Years for Kidnapping in Ekiti

On August 11, 2023, an Ekiti State High Court in Ado Ekiti sentenced three individuals—Augustin Agbogbo to 40 years, Adeniyi Olamilekan to 25 years, and Ademoh Gabriel to 32 years—totaling 97 years in prison without the option of a fine. They were convicted of kidnapping, armed robbery, and unlawful possession of offensive weapons.

The court acquitted three other defendants, Ogungbemi Gbenga, Rakiya Oseni, and Mutairu, due to the prosecution's failure to prove charges of conspiracy to kidnap and armed robbery against them. The case involved incidents where victims were kidnapped for ransom, including Lt.

Cdr. Victoria Eisap (retd), who was held until a ransom of N8 million was paid.

The court noted that the prosecution failed to prove charges against the acquitted defendants beyond a reasonable doubt. The sentences for Agbogbo, Olamilekan, and Gabriel will run concurrently from the date of their arrest.
