Ekiti Government Investigates Offensive Odour Reports

The Ekiti State Government has called for calm among residents concerning reports of an offensive odour affecting the area. Taiwo Olatunbosun, the State Commissioner for Information, announced that the government is committed to protecting lives and property while ensuring environmental safety.

Following complaints from residents, the government initiated coordinated investigations, inspections, and surveillance in locations where the odour was reported. These efforts have identified factors contributing to the foul smell, such as indiscriminate sewage disposal and poor waste management.

Enforcement actions have been taken against offenders, including prosecution and the sealing of affected premises. The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources has conducted air and gas analyses to assist in identifying the odour's source.

Olatunbosun reassured residents that the situation is being monitored closely and urged them to avoid speculation. He encouraged those with information to contact the Ministry through a dedicated phone line.
