Ekiti State Government Warns Against Waste Disposal Issues

The Ekiti State Government has warned residents against improper waste disposal practices that could endanger public health and create environmental nuisances. Tosin Aluko-Ajisafe, the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, condemned the discharge of wastewater into drainage channels, which has led to offensive odors in the area.

This warning came after complaints from residents of Third Extension, GRA, Ado Ekiti. A joint task force discovered that accumulated kitchen waste had been dumped into a public drain, causing the unpleasant smell.

An abatement notice has been issued to the responsible resident, and further actions will be taken according to environmental laws. Aluko-Ajisafe commended residents for reporting the issue and urged the public to provide information to help tackle the problem.

The ministry has previously made arrests and prosecuted offenders to address environmental nuisances. Information Commissioner Taiwo Olatunbosun assured residents that the situation is under investigation, and the government is committed to ensuring a clean and safe environment in Ekiti State.
